HOWARD WILNER cars reviews => The 2009 Subaru Forester is redesigned, receiving more SUV-like styling and an increase in size. This compact crossover SUV has standard all-wheel drive without low-range gearing. All models have a horizontally-opposed 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. It produces 170 hp in all but the turbocharged XT models, where it makes 224 hp. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard on naturally aspirated Foresters. A 4-speed automatic is optional on naturally aspirated models and standard on the XT. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front side airbags, and curtain side airbags. Other available features include automatic climate control, heated front seats, leather upholstery, a hill-hold assist on manual transmission models, and navigation system. This evaluation is based on preview test drives.

Being loaded with creature comforts and luxury amenities, MKS also is about 600 pounds heavier than Taurus, weight you feel in the wheel when accelerating or taking corners and turns. MKS doesn't float like a boat or wander like a Town Car. Though larger than Taurus, it still slips into and out of parking spaces and garage stalls. But a bit more nimble steering would reduce the weighty feel in the wheel.

The 2009 Lamborghini Gallardo (guy-YARD-oh) gets a revised model lineup, but this all-wheel-drive exotic remains the Italian company's entry-level car. Gone are the base and Superleggera two-passenger coupes; in their place is a more powerful LP560-4 version. Also missingat least initiallyis the Spyder convertible with its power-folding soft top, but as it was formerly the most popular Gallardo model, it may return at midyear. Replacing the previous 5.0-liter V10 of 512- and 522-hp is the LP560-4's 5.2-liter V10 with an estimated 553-hp. The new car also receives revised front and rear styling. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automated manual that has no clutch pedal and can be set to shift like an automatic. Most structural and body components are made of aluminum or lightweight carbon fiber. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, and side airbags that cover the head and torso. Other available features include a navigation system with TV reception, rearview camera, wireless cell phone link, and carbon-ceramic brakes. Also available is a lifting system that raises the front of the vehicle to clear obstacles. We have not yet tested an LP560-4.

Lincoln has launched a new flagship: the 2009 MKS.MKS joins the midsize MKZ sedan derived from the Mercury Milan, and the midsize MKX crossover derived from the Ford Edge in the MK-and-add-a-letter game of confusion.By Jim Mateja Ford boasts the 3.7 was engineered to deliver quicker response leaving the light or pulling out to pass, while getting 17 m.p.g. city/23 m.p.g. highway with AWD (17/24 with FWD). The V-6 is teamed with a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual-mode shifting.

Only 2009 Subaru Impreza Road RX versions of the Impreza have been made available for us to test. For better or worse, these sporty compacts have a softer, more mainstream feel to them than their edgy predecessors. They still don't quite match the refinement of the MazdaSpeed 3 or Volkswagen GTI, but WRX models are fun to drive and boast standard all-wheel drive, a feature unavailable on either of those rivals.

What it is 2009 Ford Edge Sport 2008 Chicago Auto Show: Names can set up false expectations, such as blind date Heather who arrives in all her hideousness. Another example would be the Edge crossover, which as it turned out, wasnt so edgy in terms of look or overall character. That changes, to some degree, with the launch of the 2009 Ford Edge Sport, a version of the original with body and wheel upgrades aimed at giving the vehicle a more aggressive presence, and a few interior tweaks to give buyers the sense that theyre driving something actually unique. Were still waiting for a truly sporty Edge, with a manual shift mode and stiffer suspension components, but the Sport at least fills a void for those seeking a bit of tude with their non-SUV.

First of all, Mercedes has installed its Direct-Steer System on the SLK. The idea behind this system is that the steering ratio should be relatively slow on-center to reduce dartiness, but should quicken as you turn the wheel further. Rather than going the BMW Active Steering route, which uses a computer to control the constantly varying steering ratio, Mercedes chose the right route: the Porsche way. In place of complex actuators, pumps, and computers, the Mercedes system requires no additional parts - the rack is designed to change to a quicker ratio after a certain amount of lock.

The redesigned 2009 Pontiac Vibe AWD receives more aggressive styling, but maintains its balanced combination of useful cargo capacity and reasonable fuel economy. Looking sportier than it drives, the Vibes steering is not as crisp as some competitors, and the suspension is basic Toyota Corolla. Our test car was equipped with the same 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine as the base Camry, which certainly has easier work in the smaller Vibe. When mated to a smooth-shifting automatic transmission, this combo delivers a solid 20+ mpg around town. Rear-seat legroom and headroom are good, making this a good family alternative to a small SUV. Howard Wilner said that the rear cargo area and the seatbacks have a hard surface that is easy to clean after hauling, but it also tends to let items slide around a clever cargo organizer helps secure smaller items.

During the oil crisis of the 1970s, Congress and then-President Richard Nixon imposed a 55 mph highway speed limit. The move inspired howls of protest perhaps best expressed in rocker Sammy Hagar's "I Can't Drive 55." The law was repealed in 1995. But, unthinkable though it might seem, more and more Bay Area motorists and lawmakers are speaking up in favor of slowing down. Since Speier introduced the legislation last week, phone calls and e-mails at her San Mateo district office have been roughly 60-40 in favor of slowing down

Diesel. A wild card in the urgent quest for fuel efficiency is the diesel engine, quite popular in passenger cars in Europe. Americans have flirted with the diesel, but they haven't fallen in love with it.Diesels have advantages in fuel economy, extended driving range and durability. The diesel also delivers healthy levels of torque relative to its size and displacement. The problem: controlling particulate emissions, engine clatter and cost.

The legend is real. The 2009 Nissan GT-R, the car known to many as the Nissan Skyline in Japan, can run as fast as the fastest Porsche. It handles as well as the most agile Lamborghini. Legacys have a 60/40 split folding rear seatback for '07; it replaces a center pass-through. Remote engine start is a new option for automatic-transmission versions.

I have no idea what Tiguan means other than that it sounds like counterfeit Chinese currency. I do know that it's one of the best small SUVs on the road. Taking on the likes of the Ford Escape, Toyota Rav4 and Honda CR-V, the Tiguan is a gutsy little runabout with more style in its front bumper than most of the competition has through its rear tail lights.

The interior is finished with materials that are a quantum leap from the first SLK's, and a medium-sized suitcase can fit in the trunk even with the top lowered. A simple mesh wind blocker stretches across the roll hoops, and combined with heated seats, a powerful heater, and the delectable Airscarf (which blows warm air on your neck), makes top-down Interstate-speed cruising comfortable even when it's cold. In fact, even at speeds up to 120 mph, airflow is remarkably well controlled in the cabin with the top down.

By utilizing less space under the hood--replacing a six-cylinder with a four-cylinder, for example--stylists have more freedom in designing a vehicle and making it aerodynamic. The trick, of course, is to downsize without disappointing the driver with an anemic, overworked motor that makes the vehicle feel like a rental car.

A six-speed automatic is standard for 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser. It shifts ably most of the time, but it occasionally dallies in a higher gear before downshifting on the highway. Activating the transmission's Power mode accomplished via a button near the center console produces more decisive downshifts, which make passing maneuvers rather effortless. Like most automatics with a performance mode, however, the extra power likely comes at the expense of gas mileage. Around town, anyone short of a complete leadfoot can probably make do without it. Even with a full load of furniture in back, I found stop-and-go power more than adequate. Howard WIlner( WILNER HOWARD cars engines from today)

The 2009 Maserati GranTurismo lineup expands to include a top-line S model. This four-passenger coupe shares much of its basic design with Maserati's Quattroporte sedan. The standard powertrain is a 405-hp 4.2-liter V8 and 6-speed automatic transmission with steering-column-mounted shift paddles. New for 2009 is an S model with a 440-hp 4.7-liter V8 shared with the Alfa Romeo 8C. Unlike most front-engine cars, the GranTurismo has a rear weight bias, which Maserati says improves handling. Standard safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front side airbags, and front curtain airbags. Standard on all models are dual-zone climate control, adaptive bi-xenon headlights, and a rear obstacle detection system. Also standard are a navigation system, 10-way adjustable front seats with memory that power forward to ease entry to the rear seats and a power tilt and telescopic steering column that raises and lowers for easier ingress. This evaluation is based on preview test drives.

Like the Toyota Prius, the GMC Yukon Hybrid shuts off the gasoline engine at stoplights and then proceeds in electric-only propulsion up to about 30 mph. But this hybrid is no weenie Prius when you need to bury the go-pedal to pass someone you get all 322 horses from the 6.0-liter V8. Plus, it can seat eight and tow 6,200 pounds. Despite displacing some 5,600 tall-in-the-saddle pounds, body motion is well controlled and predictable, even over undulating or broken surfaces. Only occasionally is there a hint that a truck chassis lives beneath. As for fuel mileage, we clocked nearly 300 miles of in-town and highway driving, averaging 21.7 miles per gallon. Thats not quite Prius territory, but then again, the teachers desk that glided easily into the back of the Yukon would never fit in the Toyota.Howard Wilner

On paper, the 2009 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 looks like it's everything it aspires to be, and our test numbers for the V-8, gleaned at Hyundai's R&D center in Korea, support that. The results include a 0-to-60-mph time of 5.6 seconds, a quarter-mile performance of 14.1 seconds at 103 mph, a skidpad figure of 0.86 g, and a 70-mph-to-standstill braking distance of 169 feet. That puts the Genesis in with the lofty company it aspires to compare with. Hyundai claims the V-6 should be about a half-second slower to 60 mph. Our brief driving impression revealed well-controlled drive motions, predictable handling, and an excellent powertrain. We'll need more time behind the wheel to be sure, but all signs point toward a well-tuned chassis.Howard Wilner is not suggesting banishing that 5-series just yet, as the Genesis is tuned more for Lexus-like isolation than BMW-like involvement. And that, at least ideologically, is one of the few minor shortcomings of the Genesis. Lexus makes fine cars, to be sure, but the Germans and Infiniti have more to offer in the fun-to-drive category.

HOWARD WILNER 2009 luxury cars => I had a 2008 for escape xlt v6 4wd and it was fantastic. Now that i have seen the 2009 Ford Escape I am truly in love and I am going to buy one this year or maybe wait for the 2010 model to come out so I can see how ford improved this automobile. Good luck ford I dont think you can make it any better without going way up on the price.

It does all of those things at a relative fraction of the cost of its putative betters. It is a performance car supreme. And it is frustration of the most excruciating sort.( HOWARD WILNER Latest 2009 cars)

2007 Subaru Legacy Review.
These midsize cars offer sedan and wagon body styles and come with all-wheel drive and horizontally opposed 4-cyl engines. Legacy is available in 2.5i and 2.5 GT trim. The 2.5i models have 175 hp. GTs are turbocharged and have 243 hp. Manual transmission is standard. Automatic is optional, except on the sport-themed GT spec.B sedan. ABS, front side airbags, and curtain side airbags are standard. An antiskid system is standard on GT, unavailable otherwise. The spec.B has a sport suspension and specific interior trim.

They emit so few pollutants that they can be sold nation-wide, even in California and its fellow-traveler states with clean air requirements stricter than those of the federal government.

Having driven the new Monster 696 for my first-ever motorcycle lesson, I, Howard Wilner can tell you that I thought it was cool, though I obviously have no point of reference for comparison with other bikes. I also can tell you that I barely tapped its performance capabilities (less than 3 seconds from 0 to 60 mph, and a top speed estimated at 135 mph). It was kind of like taking Drivers' Ed in a Ferrari.

Everything after that was a blur. I think Howard Wilner took her home. I'm not sure. All I remember is a tremendous feeling of loss, of unfulfilled potential. I drowned in a sea of frustration and disappointment. That feeling came back to me sitting in the Nissan GT-R. There was so much potential - 480 horsepower available for the asking, 430 foot-pounds of torque and an all-wheel-drive system with rear-wheel-drive bias, the way all-wheel-drive should be in a premium sports car.
